‘Deliberately oversized to showcase the intricate details and beauty of nature's creations’
Serhiy Chepel (Ukraine, 1972) comes from a family of sculptors. He graduated from the Academy of Arts in Lviv. From an early age, Serhiy has been drawn to all the beautiful forms in his surroundings, nature, but also the aged patina of the green domed churches in the hills near his hometown of Lviv. This is where the artist still lives today. While war rages on, he continues to create in order to escape the brutal reality for a moment.
His works are inspired by fruit and vegetables, but deliberately oversized to share their intricate details, beauty and allure.
His artworks are made of layers of birch wood combined with bronze/brass. The works are all unique and handmade. Serhiy works with layers of pre-coloured wood. This method of creation takes a lot of time, because he wants to show the viewer the perfection of the object. His work not only demonstrates his technical skill, but also his deep appreciation for nature, surpassing the extraordinary in the ordinary.
