Biography

‘The grooves in my works are almost like fingerprints, a true source of inspiration that results in a creative identity’

Kristof Montens (Bruges, 1983) is an independent entrepreneurial artist for whom art is about positive impulses, beauty, wonder, self-confidence and the healing power of nature. Kristof wants his work to make people feel good and amazed. To achieve this, he pulls out all the shapes, colours and structures he has at his disposal and brings them together to form a whole, a creative process in which meaning is central to Kristoff.

His concept Shading Shapes was born out of love for nature. He uses the chainsaw, which he considers the murder weapon of trees, to give new life to the slain wood by cutting organic shapes from recycled panels. By painting the sawn slots with various colours, he layers them for an art experience that brings nature closer to people. He tries to capture the tiny bit of light that just falls on a piece of bark or dances on a blade of grass during sunset. In this way, he pays tribute to nature and enchants viewers with a breathtaking spectacle taken from the outdoors.
