Merette Uiterwaal Nederland, b. 1990

The simplicity of everyday life is what captivates Merette Uiterwaal (born 1990, Amsterdam Southeast) as a photographer. Merette is colourblind, and this turns out to be her great strength as an artist. It allows her to see the world slightly differently, and thus capture it in a unique way. With her serene portraits, she explores the dynamic between us and the landscapes and objects around us. She translates this exploration into surrealistic photographs that challenge the viewer to see the mundane with fresh eyes.
