Ger Doornink Nederland
"Positivity and patience create a smile."
Ger Doornink (from Aalten) is a painter, illustrator, and photographer, but above all, he is a master of moments. He is also known for his portrayal of feminine gestures, the colours of the past, and the blurring of the future. In his work, it seems that the negative does not conceal but carries a revelation within. He understands the art of transferring the magic from his eye to ours, through a unique code that unites sensitivity and strength in a cloak of modernity.
Ger makes invisible colours visible and underscores looks by adding accents of light. He evokes a feeling that his work has always existed, which contrasts beautifully with the contemporaneity of his art. His portraits seem to bathe in eternity, like memories that blow in from the future, carved from the air in black and white, grey, or sepia - yet never without daring to add a bold colour accent.
Ger spent several years in Tokyo, Milan, and Amsterdam. This blend is clearly visible in the almost-geishas found in his work that could walk straight onto a catwalk. Currently, Ger divides his time between Amsterdam and Barcelona.
