"The awe-inspiring beauty of nature in all its aspects is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me."
Luciënne van Eeden (from Rotterdam) has a clear objective: she aims to touch people beyond reason. Fuelled by a fascination with the grandeur of the universe, she always gives nature the starring role in her work. But do not expect a true-to-life representation; Luciënne's work reflects what she perceives. With each brushstroke, she adds an intuitive layer of colour and texture to that vast world she so admires, where the minutest detail is as significant as the greatest expanse. For just as in the real world, in the world that Luciënne creates - on canvas, with paint - one cannot exist without the other.
The journey toward painting was a natural progression for Luciënne. She was an all-around creative, sampling dance, singing, theatre, and music, before painting ultimately prevailed. It is in the act of creation on canvas, the making from nothing, that Luciënne can lose herself completely. With apparent ease but great skill, she balances power and stillness, creating a harmonious art experience that moves you in ways that transcend thought.
Luciënne's palette is diverse: sometimes colourful and exuberant, then again subdued and understated. Thick and transparent strokes complement each other. As her work revolves around balance, she also seeks a 'togetherness' between viewer and art. She wants the viewer and the art to bring about something beautiful together, in dialogue with one another, transforming the space they share in a positive way.
Nature in all its aspects is Luciënne's muse, but it's no secret that flowers hold a special allure for her. Expansive fields of flowers that radiate both tenderness and strength repeatedly find their way onto her canvases. “The fact that flowers speak with great joy attracts me. I want to place that positivity in the space and convey it to the viewer.”
