Biography

"Every step towards the horizon creates a new one."

As a scion of a family of painters, writers, and other creatives, Ids van der Krieke (born 1961 in Havelte) was almost destined to become a multi-talented creator. He graduated from the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1990, but today he is not only a professional actor but also a passionate painter.

Acting and painting converged early in his career when, during his acting studies, he was cast in the lead role of 'Langs de kant van de weg', a successful television series about the life of Vincent van Gogh. Portraying the master himself, he visited places where Van Gogh created his sketches and paintings. After this production, Ids could no longer contain his own urge to paint.

Whereas as an actor he plays with the language of words, in his paintings he seeks the language of imagination. Nature is clearly his muse. Distant horizons and the stillness of landscapes that seem to stretch into infinity, these are what Ids tries to capture in his work, driven by the desire to convey their calming effect through his paintings to the overly busy human.

Ids lives and works in Amsterdam.
